Here she is (Sommatone photo).

This should really be called “decent” vid/audio because while I guess the Premier Guitar vids are better than nothing, sometimes (many times) when it comes to audio quality – really hearing what something sounds like – they are worse than nothing. But this isn’t a beeyach session. I was just stoked to find some audio that sounds SOMEWHAT like what my ears heard in person at the NY/NJ Amp Show.

In a recent WoodyTone post about seeing Sommatone owner Jimmy Somma put the Overdrive 35 through its paces in a live session, I said this about my experience with the Overdrives: They have “something I’m not sure I’ve ever heard with any other amp. At the Amp Show, I struggled to describe it. I think the closest I got is that the gain, or overdrive, seems to be ‘under’ or ‘around’ the note rather than on top of it.

“You know with preamp gain or an OD pedal, the gain, distortion, overdrive or whatever you want to call it seems to surround or sit on top of the note. But with Jimmy’s Overdrive amps, you get this big woody note and the hair but in a different order somehow. I’m probably doing the amp an injustice by trying to describe it at all….”

But I think in this vid you can hear what I’m saying. The audio isn’t the greatest, but I think you can hear the big woodiness with the hair around it – especially starting at about 1:37.

As a side note, this is a 4x6L6 Class A amp – sounds unlike (in a good way) any 6L6 amp I’ve ever heard. GAS!
